Just Picture It!

The cool, clear waters of Aylen Lake, near Algonquin Park, are calm this morning as Claudia Coburn loads her canoe. With her paints and canvas supplies and a lunch packed away, Claudia starts paddling. Scanning the beautiful vista, Claudia sees her next painting, inspired by a quiet spot near the shoreline where the reflection of the trees and sky are visible across the lake.


A Source of Inspiration

Claudia drifts quietly in her canoe, paints and brushes around her. Her first sketch is with watercolour, particularly enjoyable because she can just dip the brush in the lake.

To the untrained eye her brush stokes appear as random. In reality, they are the colours and design Claudia has already visualized in her mind, the greens and purples and ochres and earth tones of the leaves and surrounding flora, the many blues of the sky. Before long she has completed the sketch.

Her ability to step back and look at the whole picture and visualize the final product is what has helped her to excel in other aspects of her life as well. Whether she is raising her family, selling real estate, renovating her home, painting at her beloved lake, or starting a book club, Claudia pictures in her mind what she wants to do and then takes the necessary steps to get the job done.
